United Water, a wholly owned Veolia Water subsidiary, is in an alliance to treat recycled water and transport it via an underground pipeline to irrigate the parklands surrounding the city of Adelaide.
This project will provide a sustainable long term solution for watering the parklands and increase the reuse of treated wastewater.
The project involved:
-
design and construction of a new advanced water recycling plant and pumping station to treat 30 million litres per day of wastewater from the existing Glenelg Wastewater Treatment Plant
-
laying an underground pipeline from Glenelg Wastewater Treatment Plant to Adelaide's parklands and a pipeline network around the parklands.
Design and construction of the project was completed ahead of schedule in January 2010 and water is now being supplied to the parklands for irrigation. United Water is providing the operations and maintenance under a long term contract.
