The Aqua Project involved completion of the then largest water treatment plant in the world using submerged microfiltration membrane technology for treating drinking water (126 million litres a day capacity), with microfiltration guaranteeing the removal of Cryptosporidium and Giardia contamination from unprotected rural catchments serving a population of 100,000 in Bendigo.

United Water's Bolivar High Salinity Plant treats highly saline wastewater from the Port Adelaide region, which arrives at the Bolivar site via a new 17.5 km pipeline. The first two awards recognise projects that enhance the strength and evolution of the civic environment, assist in the restoration and preservation of the natural environment and are socially and environmentally sustainable. The Australian Institute of Project Management Achievement Award and the Engineers Australia SA Division Engineering Excellence Award (Civil Category) recognised the technical aspects of the project.
