In Australia and New Zealand, Veolia Water's 23 long term operational contracts provide water and wastewater services for more than 2.9 million people.

The company is responsible for operating more than A$10 billion of water assets with more than 40 water and wastewater plants either under operation or under construction for future operation, and management of more than 17,000 km of water, wastewater and stormwater networks.

In 2008, Veolia Water produced more than 225 billion litres of drinking water, and treated more than 125 billion litres of wastewater.

Worldwide, the company provides drinking water and wastewater treatment services to more than 139 million people and manages close to 4,400 contracts.

Veolia Water's extensive experience in operating and maintaining water and wastewater treatment facilities involves working to guarantee availability, maintain high environmental standards and be an active part of the local community.

A key feature of Veolia Water's operational approach is working to improve the monitoring and quality of the water produced through new technological processes such as rapid filtration, ozonation, the introduction of activated carbon, nanofiltration and biological treatment systems.

Across the world, 300 Veolia Water researchers work on developing new processes to remove pollutants as well as new analysis techniques that can detect micro-organisms and chemical products more quickly. Each year, Veolia Water conducts more than two million water analyses throughout the world.

In Australia and New Zealand, Veolia Water's operations staff work within an integrated business management system to ensure consistency in work procedures, in monitoring and in reporting of performance to deliver the highest level of customer service for clients.

All operations are certified to relevant standards such as International Standard for Quality Management ISO 9001, International Standard for Environmental Management ISO 14001 and the Australian Standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management AS 4801.
