Robert Field

Operator, South East Queensland Desalination Plant

When did you join Veolia Water?

I joined Veolia in June 2008.

What does your current role involve?

The day to day running of the desal plant from a maintenance perspective. I also liaise with contractors on isolations, permit protocol and safety requirements.

What do you like most about your role?

The flexibility and continuity the job provides and the coordination which exists between all levels of our team. Also working in an environment that has safety as a high priority.

Tell us something interesting about your role.

Working side by side with the diverse personalities that form part of our operations team. I find the process problems involved in operating such a large and complex plant very interesting. The interesting stories are great and often give me a laugh.

What's the best thing about living on the Gold Coast?

The sun, surf and sand as well as the people I meet and the laid back social scene which makes life so enjoyable.

If you weren't an operator what would you be?

A teacher, occupational therapist or managing a large aquarium.
